Armed group failed to cross Iran border: Police

TEHRAN, Aug. 22 (MNA) – An armed group was repelled and one of its members killed by Iranian border guards during an attempt to infiltrate the country near Saravan, police spokesman Brigadier General Saeed Montazer al-Mahdi said.

The spokesman said border guards of the Saravan border regiment, using intelligence dominance and operational readiness, detected movements of an armed group planning to enter Iran and carry out sabotage.

The guards blocked the infiltrators' route and, during the ensuing clash, killed one member of the group.

The remaining members fled back across the border. Weapons and communications equipment were discovered and seized during a sweep of the area, the spokesman said.
